The SHU Racing SR15 Launch

The 5th of July 2025 marked the launch of SHU Racing’s latest vehicle, the SR15. We would like to thank all team members, university staff and partners for your contribution to this project.

This blog outlines the recent months of how we got here:

Testing:

At the beginning of June the team headed to a partner: Parkwood Karting for a testing day. The day was a huge success with good organisation and great communication throughout the team. Our powertrain unit reliably ran and started, and we simulated some dynamic scrutineering tests. Following this we headed back to Parkwood for another testing session where our new drivers got to take the wheel, including SHU Racing’s first female driver Abigail Williams. After yet another successful testing day we then headed to a third and final test at Fulbeck where we spent the day pushing the car to its limits and testing the reliability of many systems. Due to the nature of the track, we were able to fit our full aero package without the risk of damage, we ran pressure tappings in the final element of the side wings to further validate the aerofoil configuration. We completed 60 laps (35 miles) as well as full run throughs of both acceleration and skid pad events, whilst allowing all drivers to get comfortable with their respective event.

What we learned from Testing:

Testing allows us to stress test components and analyse the car’s performance under load, when issues arise, we can learn how to effectively troubleshoot and efficiently repair in tight timeframes. Some of the issues which arose were an ineffective cooling system which allowed the car to overheat, and an inefficient ECU map which led the car to run a rich fuel-air mix, preventing us to run a full endurance event. With a second trip to a partner: RDT we were able to map the car to run leaner and have a lower idle, increasing our chances of getting through scrutineering and completing the endurance event.

Sponsor Shoutout – EmKay:

We would like to give a huge shoutout to our sponsors EmKay. Emkay supplies us with high quality foam which was vital in the design, testing and manufacture of this and next years chassis. Thank you Emkay!

Meet the Team – Will:

Meet the Team gives you the chance to get to know the people behind SHU Racing that work hard in helping with the manufacturing of our car. This week, we are excited to introduce Will.
