IMechE regional showcase and the build is on

This week the team at SHU Racing have been busy finalising parts, beginning chassis fabrication and also hosting the annual meet up of the Formula Student teams based in Yorkshire.

IMechE Regional showcase

On Wednesday night, Sheffield Hallam University hosted the 6th Annual meet-up of the IMechE Formula Student Teams based in Yorkshire. This was a chance for teams from around the region to meet up and discuss our plans for the year. In attendance this year was Sheffield Formula Racing (University of Sheffield), HUFS (University of Hull), SUN Racing (University of Sunderland), Team Bradford Racing (University of Bradford) as well as the newly rebranded Leeds Gryphon Racing (University of Leeds) and MCR MET Racing (Manchester Metropolitan University.

Each team was invited to deliver a 15-minute technical talk discussing what they had learnt from last years events and what they were developing for the new season. After the presentations, students from other teams were then given the opportunity to ask questions both about the new designs being introduced and how they work. It was also a chance for teams to offer advice about new concepts from their own experiences.

The cars were also displayed in the atrium before the event to allow us all to have a good look around the cars to gain a better understanding of how things may have been done last year. This allows us to understand better how new ideas may have been implemented, but also to better develop our own new concepts.

SHU Racing would like to thank the IMechE and all the visiting teams for attending the event and wish you all luck in the run up to Silverstone.

We go again

This week has also seen the team spring into action as we took delivery of our laser cut chassis tubing. With a complete overhaul of the chassis geometry, tailored to improving the cars handling, the chassis department have been working tirelessly to ensure high accuracy from the get go with our front bulk head being welded to within 0.02mm! Along with our newly developed "backplate" and the use of precision laser cut chassis and suspension pickup jigs, SHU Racing are aiming to have the most accurate and advanced chassis to date.

Along with the chassis, many other departments have begun manufacture with our first completed components ready to go. We cannot wait to show our new developments for the 2020 season, so keep your eyes peeled over the coming weeks.
