Starting Strong

The New Season Begins

Welcome back to a new season at SHU Racing! Just over 2 months have passed since FSUK 2022, with previous department leads having completed their handovers providing the 2023 team with a good sense of aims and objectives for this years competition. We are looking forward to seeing the new team members and those who are returning for another exciting year, let the 2023 season begin!

2022 Season Review

The team undertook an ambitious amount of work to continue the rapid progress of SHU Racing; a few key mentions being the carbon fibre monocoque, full aero package and, a new intake and exhaust system. The team was pushed to its limit when it came to manufacturing and assembling the car to be ready for Silverstone, spending all day and all night in the lab to ensure it was ready for competition.

To recap the 2022 Silverstone Event we placed 19th overall, and thanks to the hard work of the 2022 department leads SHU Racing placed 2nd in the costing event at Silverstone, which is a fantastic achievement. Unfortunately, SHU Racing was unable to compete in the Dynamic events at Silverstone due to electrical issues within the car.

We would like to thank the Sponsors and Technical Staff at the University for support provided throughout the season and are looking forward to working with you again.

We would like to also like to thank and congratulate the 2022 managers on their hard work and the results they achieved at FSUK and their degrees. We hope to build on the foundations made last year to improve the car even further and use the momentum of the team to bring the SR13 into competition for the 2023 title. We hope to see the 2022 managers at Silverstone next year, if not a little earlier for some post-season testing.

Expansion and Evolution

The Sheffield Hallam University Societies Fair last week was fantastic with lots of new students from a variety of subjects wanting to get involved with the design and manufacturing of the 2023 car. If you missed us at the Society Fair and have an interest in cars, as well as attending Sheffield Hallam, getting involved with our Formula Student team SHU Racing may be of interest to you. Even for non-engineering students, we are currently looking at ways for more students to be involved and are open to any ideas you may have. Email us at info.shuracing@gmail.com to see how you can get involved with the team.

We are also currently in the process of integrating the Hallam Business School within SHU Racing, this is a fantastic opportunity for team members as it will help spread the workload of the team while providing an environment for both parties to experience communication between different faculties, allowing for a smoother transition into industry.

Our first team meeting will be happening on the 6th of October, where we hope to meet those who have shown interest in our team and demonstrate our plan for the year and show where you where you can get involved. We hope to see you there!
