Mapping Out the Road to Silverstone
A visit to AP Racing Engines
On Monday and Tuesday this week, a few members of SHU Racing visited AP Racing Engines to again improve the set up of the car we are taking to Silverstone next week. AP Racing Engines are a family run business which houses both an engine building bay and a rolling road with their engines seeing use worldwide and in a variety of sports. Their technical expertise in engines and vehicle setup, friendly customer relations and their willingness to go above and beyond is why we continue to partner with them.
With their state-of-the-art rolling road, and the knowledge and skills to back it up, AP Racing Engines are able to cater to a range of customer requirements. From simple power runs to problem diagnoses to 3D mapping your vehicle, AP Racing Engines can do it all and help you extract the most from your vehicle.
With new powertrain components, including a plenum and exhaust, a visit to the rolling road was crucial to ensuring the car would run at its best! Not only have the team got an improved map to suit the updated components, we have also had a chance to learn more about the ECU and its capabilities thanks to Andrew Parker and his in-depth knowledge of the DTA Fast system. The car is now idling quieter, whilst having an increased amount of power and running more efficiently than it has previously. We cannot wait to get it out on track to see what it can do!
SHU Racing would like to say a huge thank you to Andrew for his patience with us and for sending us off with a fantastic new map!
Business Plan Presentation
The first event of FSUK 2021, the Business Plan Presentation (BPP), has now been completed by both the Formula Student class and the concept class teams. The BPP is one event where all teams go up against each other, regardless of their class meaning the two teams were competing head-to-head.
Both teams came away from their presentations feeling they had achieved their best. On the day, the judges provided feedback which the teams have taken on board and will use to improve their performance next year.
The results of the BPP have now been posted with SHU Racing placing 43rd with 61.9 points and SHU Racing Development placing 63rd with 45.6 points both of which the team can be proud of. A maximum of 120 points were available for the event with 100 teams competing.
With the development of a monocoque chassis this year at SHU Racing we needed an internationally trusted supplier for all our carbon fibre who could also provide us with the technical assistance which we required.
Having continually supported us through the years with and supplied us not only with the materials we’ve required, but also with unrivalled technical support, advise and feedback during the design process. Deepening our relationship with Easy Composites was and easy choice for SHU Racing.
Launched in 2010, Easy Composites has grown quickly to become one of the UK and Europe’s leading suppliers of advanced composite materials, equipment, and training. They pride themselves in providing unrivalled technical support to their customers whilst building meaningful relationships and making the working with composites as straight forward and easy as possible.
Another key part of the development of our monocoque chassis, is the materials used as it core. With the use of composites growing globally over a range of industries and applications EMKAY Plastics have become specialists in supplying the core material for your needs. With a wide range of grades in stock and a team of experts in house, EMKAY Plastics can advise and provide the right material for your project.
We’d like to thank EMKAY Plastics for their assistance this year and their expert knowledge which has allowed our team to complete their designs with confidence and manufacture with the certainty that their parts will come out to spec.
