Composite Monocoque Update!

With the 2022 semester well underway, the team has been flat out finalising their designs and getting them ready so that manufacturing can begin. This week we're getting an update from our chassis manager about the composite monocoque and the sheet metal mould.

Having taken delivery of the monocoque raw material just before Christmas, our chassis manager has been putting in the hours with sanding, bonding, and prepping so that the layup can begin over the next couple of weeks. With any cost-effective manufacturing technique, there are some compromises that arise within the design. As the mould is a laser cut CNC bent sheet aluminium mould, it is split into various pieces resulting in many hours of perfecting the joints along each split line. With only 5 months till the FSUK competition, you can be sure that our lives are about to get hectic!!

Reasons for Joining SHU Racing: I've wanted to be involved in Motorsport for years and Formula Student was the first opportunity I had to do that, it seemed like a great way to get my foot in the door and gain experience. The skills I've gained and the doors it's opened I don't think I would've happened without it.
