Back to Work

Welcome back to a new season at SHU Racing! This year may look a little different for the team from when you last heard from us, but we have big plans and intend to make good on them if possible! Keep a watch out for our weekly newsletters to keep up to date with all the latest at SHU Racing

2020 Review

Unfortunately, the 2020 season came to a sudden halt in March with the closure of the buildings at Sheffield Hallam University and the lockdown that followed. This meant that the 2020 car was never finished and could never show how fantastic it would have been at Silverstone in July. Shown below are images of the car that the 2020 managers and their team designed, and which we hoped would have been our most successful to date. The 2021 car will be developing on from the work carried out during the 2020 season and we look forward to seeing her out on track.

We would like to thank the Sponsors and Technical Staff at the University for all the support they provided throughout the season and look forward to beginning to work with you all again over the coming months.

We would also like to take the opportunity to thank all the managers for their hard work throughout last year. We hope that we can do them proud this year and maybe see them at Formula Student UK next summer! Finally, we would also like to congratulate them all on achieving fantastic final degree classifications!

2020 Managers;

Matthew Hoyle; Team Principal, Bodywork and Aero Manager – Alex Gregor; Team Manager, Steering and Suspension Manager – Martin Sowerby; Chassis and Impact Attenuator Manager – Thomas Fox; Drivers Environment Manager – Greg Last; Powertrain Manager – Rhys Collins; Wheels, Hubs, Upright and Brakes (WHUBS) Manager – Tim Gardiner; Electronics and Electrical Manager- Yusuf Hussein; Future Developments Manager

Recruitment for the new team

September is the time when we begin to look for new team members to join SHU Racing and if you have an interest in cars and are a student at Sheffield Hallam, SHU Racing and Formula Student may be something you wish to be involved with!

Ordinarily fresher’s week would be filled with opportunities for students to ask about joining the team at the societies and sports fairs, as well as us coming in to talk to first year students about what they may gain from joining Formula Student. This year, the process will be done a little differently. To join us at our virtual meet the team event, please book your tickets through the following link; https://www.hallamstudentsunion.com/organisation/7640/

Alternatively, contact us at info.shuracing@gmail.com to find out more about the team. We at SHU Racing are proud of welcoming individuals from all academic backgrounds and believe anyone with enthusiasm, focus and the ability to be a team player can be a part of SHU Racing. We look forward to welcoming our new members to the team over the coming weeks!

Meet the Team

Meet the Team is an opportunity for us to give you a chance to learn a little more about the people who make up SHU Racing. This week, we welcome our new Team Principal and Drivers Environment Department Lead, Alice Boote.

Name: Alice Boote

Age: 22

Course: Meng Automotive Engineering

Role: Team Principal and Drivers Environment Manager

Number of years with the Team: 5

Hobbies and Interests: Running, baking cakes and drinking coffee

Favourite Car: MG TC

Dream Job: Project Engineer

Reasons for Joining SHU Racing: When I started at Sheffield Hallam, I had spent very little hands on experience when it came to cars despite my degree and thought this was something I should seek out. By joining SHU Racing, I have had the chance to learn and make mistakes without the pressure of my work being graded. I have made friends with similar interests, gained a better understanding of my degree both through design and manufacture and know more what I want to do for work when I graduate. I am looking forward to seeing what this year holds!
