Normal Service Has Resumed

After a well-deserved summer break, the team are back in the workshop and busy making plenty of progress towards SHU Racing 2020. Before we let you in on our latest updates, read our long-awaited review of Silverstone 2019 and a roundup of our summer activities.

Silverstone Review

The annual Formula Student competition held at Silverstone saw SHU Racing go from strength to strength. Our team was one of the first to complete scrutineering and progress to the dynamic events. We became one of only fourteen teams to compete in all dynamic events and reach the end of the endurance event. The culmination of the hard work from the team resulted in our highest ever finish, placing 21st overall out of 81 international teams. What’s more, we reached the cost final for the first time in the team’s 7-year history.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors, University technical staff and the managers for contributing towards such a fantastic season. Without whom we would not be able to compete and continue our upwards progression. For this we are extremely grateful.

A Royal Visit for SHU Racing

On Thursday 25th July, the team had the pleasure of presenting the SHU Racing 2019 car to HRH The Duke of Sussex, KCVO - Prince Harry - and Sheffield Hallam University VC, Sir Chris Husbands.

As part of his Sheffield visit, HRH took an interest in the team's race car, taking time to find out about the wider aspects of Formula Student and its role in promoting and developing the STEM subjects. We would like to thank the Prince for taking the time to talk to the team and expressing his appreciation for the work that SHU Racing does across the academic field.

Recruitment and welcome meeting

The start of term means only one thing: recruiting new members to join SHU Racing. During the welcome week at Sheffield Hallam University, the team was out and about around campus at both the societies fair and the sports fair, spreading the word of SHU Racing, Formula Student and the society.

Following our recruitment drive to get students involved in the ever growing Formula Student team, our first welcome meeting saw a spectacular turnout, filling the lecture theatre in the Eric Mensforth Building. Members new and old were present to find out more about the team, the new managers and how to get involved in one of the University’s most exciting and rewarding projects. We also outlined our upcoming plans and even gave a sneak peak of our initial design concepts. Our new society committee also outlined their plans for the year with many exciting events scheduled over the coming months. If you would like to get involved with the team this year it’s not too late. Contact us via email at info.shuracing@gmail.com or our public Facebook page SHU Racing Team. We pride ourselves on inclusivity, welcoming students from all academic backgrounds. We believe that anyone with the enthusiasm and determination to succeed can be part of SHU Racing.
