FORMULA STUDENT 2017

Formula Student is an international competition, which is organised and sponsored by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). With over 75 teams competing in this year’s competition, the aim of the competition is for a team of students to design, develop, innovate, build, test and race a single seated racing car. This includes a rigorous testing process of both static and dynamic events, which is judged by experienced industry specialists. The entirety of the cars development is undertaken 100% by students, which are welcomed onto the team from all degree disciplines; from Mechanical engineering, to business and events management and English language!

The UK competition finishes with a prestigious motorsport competition at Silverstone in July every year.

It has been a great opportunity for our students to experience a live racing environment and to adapt their engineering skills to a practical situation, with special thanks to the 2017 management team Ryan Fletcher, Matthew Wilkinson, Daniel Hancock, David O’Dea, Thomas Gooding and Matthew Heywood.

The 2018 season’s car has already started development, and is eagerly anticipated after this year’s success. If you want to get involved, no matter what degree you study or what year you are, all applications will be considered.
