It's Time to Build

Back in the Workshop

The relaxation of rules has allowed the team to get back into the workshop and has resulted in a busy week of manufacturing. Many of the managers have been focussing on updating the chassis through moving the old tabs to their newly designed locations. This has resulted in a busy few day of grinding and welding for the team. Additionally, our electrical manager Jack Boyes has been busy repairing and updating the loom ready for testing which is imperative to the running of the car.

The manufacture of our Aero package is also currently underway with the layup of the wings starting this week. The team’s knowledge of working with carbon fibre has developed this year through research and knowledge gained from many company partnerships. Furthermore, a full suspension rebuild has been the focus this week, allowing the team to make improvements on the previous design.

Sponsor spotlight

SHD composites specialise in advanced composite materials with extensive industry experience and knowledge in carbon fibre prepreg and manufacturing. The company has been invaluable to the team this year as we develop our first carbon fibre monocoque. They have offered their expertise through the selection of a suitable prepreg and providing technical documents to support the manufacturer. The support they have provided has been greatly appreciated and truly invaluable. SHU Racing would like to thank SHD Composites for their support this year!

IMechE Yorkshire Formula Student Teams Showcase Event

The team took part in the Yorkshire meetup on Tuesday which provided the opportunity for the managers to showcase all the work they have conducted over the year. As well as Sheffield Hallam, the event was attended by the University of Sheffield, Hull, Bradford, Huddersfield and Leeds. It was extremely interesting to hear how the other universities have been getting on throughout the year and to gain an understanding of any issues they had also been facing and how they have overcome these. The inclusion of a question-and-answer session allowed for interesting discussion between the teams and helped to facilitate knowledge sharing.
